BEGINNING SEWING-GRADES 4-6

Students will demonstrate proficiency of using a sewing machine by completing a pillowcase, apron and tote bag. Students will also demonstrate proficiency when selecting appropriate fabric for their projects. In addition, they will demonstrate how to lay out and cut a pattern, follow pattern instructions, and use an iron during project construction. Each student will also demonstrate their ability to do hand stitching techniques by preparing samples each of: Hemming stitch, overcast stitch and running or basting stitches.

SEWING-GRADES 7-12

Students will demonstrate proficiency of using a sewing machine by completing a Patchwork tote bag, Zippered pouch, and a Pajama set. Students will also demonstrate proficiency when selecting appropriate fabric for their projects. In addition, they will demonstrate how to lay out and cut out a pattern, read and follow pattern envelope information, follow pattern instructions, and use an iron during project construction. Each student will also demonstrate their ability to do hand stitching techniques by preparing samples each of: Hemming stitch, Overcast stitch and running or basting stitches, ladder stitch, back stitch and blanket stitch.
