Students will learn how to prepare food in a home kitchen learning environment that is much like cooking at home with your family! Students will gain practical experience through the application of skills in food preparation, menu planning, serving meals, working as a team, nutrition and sanitation. Students will learn in a well-equipped kitchen to prepare food for our school friends and to take home to our families.
Student Outcomes and Objectives:
1. Demonstrate basic knife skills and utilize other kitchen tools in a mature and safe manner.
2. Be introduced to food safety and how to keep a sanitary environment.
3. Be introduced to working as a team in the kitchen, taking on many different roles to support the overall outcome of a successful meal.
4. Be introduced to the preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner items.
5. Be introduced to baking and pastry making.
6. Demonstrate knowledge in planning and preparing a meal.
7. Learn quantity food preparation.
8. Study and prepare dishes from various ethnic cuisines of the world, such as Italy, China, Thailand, Mexico and various other cuisines as dictated by student interest.
Materials: Dependent on student interest (a google form will be sent out soon) the cost of food items will vary. I will do my best to gage cost off current market and will also work with students to work within a budget! Once I have received what the students are interested in cooking, I will firm up material fee.
Each student will receive a uniform including a name badge and an apron that they will keep after completion of the class. Each student will be expected to wear close toed shoes during class for safety purposes.
